New England Patriots Get Awarded for Losing Tom Brady

Sometimes when you lose, you really win? Former Patriot for life Tom Brady left New England for greener pastures, and ended up winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots’ did score a consolation prize as a result. They now have the highest compensatory pick in the 2021 NFL draft, starting with the highest one awarded because they lost Tom Brady.

Basically when you’re team loses a top player, and he’s signs a big contract on another team in free agency, this is how you get some compensation back for letting a big name walk.

It’s supposed to help smaller market teams. This also is your reward when you lose a minority coach.
