New Tennessee AD Danny White Isn’t Happy With Vols Fans Over Backlash To Head Coach Hire: ‘Some Of You Are Failing’

Tennessee Volunteers athletic director Danny White has a problem with the way some of his fans have reacted to the hiring of head coach Josh Heupel. White worked with Heupel at UCF, and will now look to bring prowess back to a dormant Tennessee Vols program.

The Heupel hire led to a mixed reaction from Vols fans. They have seen their program turn into a joke in recent years, so they were probably going to be skeptical no matter who Danny White chose to lead the program.

Nevertheless, White had a problem with the negativity.

“Some of you are awesome,” he said of fans reaction on the web. “Some of you are failing. How can you turn passion into such negativity?”

Danny White probably needs to understand that sports fans turn passion into negativity with ease. It comes with the territory…get used to it.

Josh Heupel will inherit a Tennessee program that doesn’t have much going for them. They went 3-7 last year, don’t have much in terms of a recruiting class, and have a lot of players opting to enter the transfer portal. Oh, and Heupel will also inherit the NCAA violations left over from the Jeremy Pruitt regime.

It definitely wont be a quick fix for Danny White, Josh Heupel and Tennessee Volunteers football.
