Jared Goff Speaks On The Rams Making Super Bowl Without Him

Things ended a little salty with Jared Goff and Sean McVay in Los Angeles.

Even though Goff said and did all the right things after being traded to the rebuilding Lions, it was reported that he hung up on the Rams head coach after getting the call that he was being traded.

Now that the dust has settled, it appears that Jared Goff has gotten used to being away from the contending Rams. And he even took the high road when speaking on his former team playing in the Super Bowl this weekend.

“Most of all, I’m happy for those guys because I know how hard they’ve worked, and they deserve it,” Goff said. “Of course, as a human, you feel like you can be missing out at times. But I think about, if I was in that situation, how would they feel about me? They’d be equally as thrilled for me.

“It’s something that you wish you could be a part of in your own right with the Lions, but we’re not right now — and watching them do it is just another part of the journey.”

Jared Goff would also say that he’s especially happy for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford — who went through a long career in Detroit before getting this moment.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Matthew’s as a player and as a person,” Goff said. “I know that what he went through the first part of his career was tough, and seeing him battle through that and get his opportunity now, it’s amazing. You root for people like that. It’s impossible not to. And it’s impossible not to root for good things to happen to good people.”

Jared Goff came as advertised for the Lions this season. While he may not have done enough to win games on his own for Detroit, he had his moments, and proved to be a serviceable game-manager.

He threw for 3,245 yards and added 19 touchdowns to go along with nine interceptions. The Lions will hope to take the next step in their rebuild with Goff under center next season.
