German Sex Workers Launch Protest in Creepy Masks to Re-Open Brothels

HAMBURG (Reuters) – Prostitutes demonstrated in Hamburg’s red light district late on Saturday evening demanding that Germany’s brothels be allowed to reopen after months of closure to curb the spread of coronavirus.

With shops, restaurants and bars all open again in Germany, where prostitution is legal, sex workers say they are being singled out and deprived of their livelihoods despite not posing a greater health risk.

“The oldest profession needs your help,” read a notice held up by one woman in a brothel window in the Herbertstrasse, which was flooded with red light after being dark since March.

Prostitution may in fact be the oldest profession in existence. It’s so old that Patriots owner Robert Kraft was said to have frequented “houses of heaven” as early as the 4th millennium B.C.

I’m on team “Let the people have sex.” Germany has been playing Bundesliga for months now, breathing on each other in close contact and Germany has seemingly had no trace of an issue with play there.

Hamburg spokesperson Martin Helfrich had this to say regarding the ban on sex working,

“It is in the very nature of services related to sex work to operate at a very close distance,” Martin Helfrich, the spokesman for Hamburg’s ministry of social affairs, told CNBC Monday.

“The intensified exhalation might spread the virus-contaminated aerosols even further than usual. Adding to these difficulties, it might prove difficult to trace contacts in case of a contamination, since the documentation of guests with the correct contact details can — owing to the circumstances — be expected to be flawed.”

There seems to be an easy solution to this. All sex workers and patrons wear masks and contact is kept below the chin. Done. Problem solved. Let the sex workers work.
