After the Dallas Mavericks “parted ways” with longtime general manager Donnie Nelson, it was surprisingly announced on Thursday afternoon that Rick Carlisle was stepping down as head coach.

As a Dallas native and Mavericks fan, I’m forever grateful for Rick Carlisle.

The Mavs were good under Don Nelson with, “Dirty” Dirk, “Filthy” Finley and “Nasty” Nash, but Rick Carlisle took the Mavs from good to great, and won us a Chip!!

It’s unclear if Rick Carlisle will seek the Celtics job (or any other gig) for next season. But he had one hell of a run in Dallas, and it deserves to be celebrated.

The Dallas Mavericks now have a lot of work to do in the offseason, and they still need to shore up their supporting cast around Luka Doncic.

There is plenty of reason for concern if you’re a Dallas Mavericks fan. And you just have to hope that Mark Cuban knows what the hell he’s doing with this whole mess.
