Bill Belichick Emotionally Responds To Adam Vinatieri Announcing His Retirement

Bill Belichick knows that when he looks back at the dynasty he created with the New England Patriots, none of it would have been possible without Adam Vinatieri.

The clutch kicker announced his retirement on Wednesday, and will walk away from the game as the greatest place kicker to ever do it.

Shortly after the announcement, Bill Belichick released a statement on Vinatieri.

“Adam Vinatieri is the greatest kicker of all-time who made the greatest kick of all-time in the 2001 divisional playoffs,” Belichick said. “His consistency, mental toughness and performance under pressure was legendary. I am honored to have coached Adam, going all the way back to his rookie year in 1996 and through some of the most special moments in Patriots and league history. Adam is in the rarest of echelon of athletes whose career accomplishments may never be matched.”

Some of Adam Vinatieri’s clutchest moments include the kick in the snow against the Raiders, the 48-yarder to beat the Rams in the Super Bowl and the 41-yarder to defeat the Panthers two years later. The man simply had ice in his veins.

Meanwhile, a lot of players from the Patriots dynasty have either already retired, or are beginning to announce their retirements. And Tom Brady somehow just keeps on trucking.

Props to Adam Vinatieri on one hell of a career.
