Former ESPN Boss Envisions a Future Where Super Bowl is a Pay Per View Event

The Super Bowl is still the most watched event of the year. Roughly around 100 million Americans tune it to see the Big game each and every year. But now there’s some rumblings that the game may one day no longer be free of charge. Former ESPN Head John Skipper is of the opinion that the Super Bowl is heading to a pay-per-view model soon. Skipper shared his thoughts with Dan Le Batard.

“You’ll have to supplement … You may end up with some pay-per-view stuff. Super Bowl. That’s an interesting thing. Take that to pay-per-view,” Skipper said. “I mean that’s how they’re gonna replace the money someday. Because there’s not gonna be enough money in the advertising. If people are willing to pay big money to see Floyd Mayweather fight a Paul brother, I would think the money generated by a pay-per-view … Maybe you’ll be able to pay a lifetime subscription.”

If the NFL thinks they can make more money by making the game PPV, of course they’ll do it.

But right now the Broadcast networks are still paying thru the roof to broadcast the game.

I do see a time where it won’t be on Network television, but exclusively on streaming platforms like Amazon.
