Trade Rumors Surrounding Chicago Bears Receiver Allen Robinson Heating Up

Chicago Bears receiver Allen Robinson hasn’t had it too easy in Chicago.

After being with Blake Bortles in Jacksonville, Robinson came to Chicago to work with a scrappy bunch which included the likes of Mitch Trubisky, Mike Glennon, Chase Daniel, Nick Foles, Andy Dalton, etc.

Needless to say, A-Rob has never had a great quarterback to match his star potential. But perhaps that could change this season.

After being slapped with the franchise tag for the second consecutive year, the Bears are going to have to assess if they’re willing to give Allen Robinson the money he deserves, or if they should start to consider a future without their top receiver.

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report thinks the bears should not only look to trade Robinson, but also look to move other players on their roster mid-season.

Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

“It’s a little counterintuitive to trade your best wide receiver while trying to give a rookie quarterback the best chance to succeed. But Robinson’s contract situation is such that the sooner the Bears deal him, the better. Robinson and the team had the opportunity to come up with a contract extension last season but failed to do so. The Bears ended up applying the franchise tag, which came out to be a one-year deal worth $18 million. That makes him the second-highest paid receiver in the league this year, and each year the tag is applied it becomes more expensive for the team. That means the Bears are going to either come to terms on a long-term agreement, pay him like a top-three receiver on the tag again next season or watch him walk away and get draft compensation for him. That’s if they aren’t proactive.  Instead, the Bears could look to give Robinson a fresh start with a team willing to part with a high-value draft pick or picks.”

Sure, having Allen Robinson in Chicago with Justin Fields for the long haul might be ideal. But given how Bears general manager Ryan Pace already faces a tall task with navigating his salary cap, that dream scenario is just not possible.

With that being the case, it’s probably best to get some draft picks for his talents while the Chicago Bears have made it abundantly clear with their on-field play that they’re going absolutely no where this season.

Allen Robinson would be a highly coveted asset on the trade market, and it’s time that the Bears start seeing what they could get for the wideout.
