Barcelona Star Antoine Griezmann Dropped As Yu-Gi-Oh! Ambassador After Alleged Racism

Barcelona soccer players Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele are under heavy fire after a video from 2019 has resurfaced. In the video, which was recorded during the club’s tour in Japan, the two players appeared to mock the native people for their “ugly faces.”

Both players have apologized for the video. But maintain that there was no racism rooted in anything that they said.

Nevertheless,  Antoine Griezmann has been pulled from his sponsorship with “Yu-Gi-Oh!” just a month after it started. Konami made the announcement in a statement on their website.

“Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the philosophy of sports, that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable. Previously we had announced Antoine Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! contents ambassador, however in light of recent events we have decided to cancel the contract.

“With regard to our eFootball PES franchise, we will be requesting FC Barcelona as a club partner to explain the details of this case and its future actions”.

Antoine Griezmann took to social media to release a statement of his own on the disturbing video.

“I have always been committed against any form of discrimination. For the past few days, some people have wanted to pass me off as the man I am not. I firmly refute the accusations made against me and I am sorry if I could offend my Japanese friends,” Griezmann said in a tweet.

Barcelona would also send out a message, apologizing for hurting the Asian community after the Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele video.

Hopefully Antoine Griezmann’s removal from Yu-Gi-Oh! will be an eye-opener for him, and he’s a little more careful with how he might be offending people in the future.
