Alex Antetokounmpo, Giannis’ Younger Brother, is Ditching College Basketball Too

Yeah, there’s another Antetokounmpo brother. Giannis’ youngest brother, Alex, is a senior at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin and a two-time first-team all-state selection. He’s not quite the recruit that Jalen Green or Daishen Nix is, but Alex has also decided to skip a chance at playing in the NCAA. While Green and Nix are headed to the G League, Alex is headed to Europe to play professionally as first reported by EuroHoops.

The 6’7″ power forward averaged 20 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in 2019-20 and you can see some glimpses of older brother Giannis in his mixtape:

Born in 2001, Alex talked about his decision to play professionally in Europe with EuroHoops:

“I am examining my options, I have a few choices from the States, but I have decided to play in Europe”, Alex Antetokounmpo explains to Eurohoops. “I want to become a pro as soon as possible. I was born and raised in Europe, I know European basketball and the best thing for me would be to sign a contract with a European club. I will have to train and compete against grown men, I will experience strong competition and pressure and I will evolve on every level”.

Alex will be looking to become the fourth Antetokounmpo brother in the NBA alongside Giannis, Kostas who plays for the Lakers, and Thanasis who plays with Giannis on the Bucks. While having the Antetokounmpo bloodline certainly doesn’t make you an NBA All-Star, Alex may have the best chance to become the first of Giannis’ brothers to carve out a true role in the NBA. Back in 2017, Giannis called then 15-year-old Alex the “Real Greek Freak” and told TMZ Sports that his youngest brother would “be even better [than him].”

I will respectfully disagree with Giannis on that account, but it will be interesting to see how Alex progresses in Europe.
