Alabama Basketball Coach Nate Oats Rips Coach K For Wanting COVID-19 Postponment

Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats isn’t buying Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s motives for saying he thinks the NCAA should reassess whether they should be playing basketball during the pandemic. Coach K’s Blue Devils are reeling, coming off back-to-back losses, including a blowout at the hands of Illinois earlier in the week. Here’s what Nate Oats had to say about the timing Kryzyzewski’s comments.

“Let me ask you a question. Do you think Coach K would be saying that if he hadn’t lost those two non-conference games at home?” Oats rhetorically asks. He went on to say that he absolutely believes we should be playing basketball right now.

Nate Oats isn’t the only person to come after Coach K’s comments about stopping play. Many think it would be a different story if Duke had been winning.

Get in Some Sideaction:

Yeah, maybe Coach K put his foot in his mouth a little here.

Although, I kind of see where he’s coming from. Since the college basketball season started, COVID-19 cases have been on the rise. If the season was scheduled to start today, we would probably be discussing a delay or cancellation. Now that the season has already begun, that seems unlikely.

I do think coach K would be telling a different story if his Duke Blue Devils team was playing up to his standards to start the season. Alabama and Nate Oats might be onto something here.
