Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon let his frustrations get the best of him during the Game One loss to the Blues on Monday night.
Late in the game, Surgeon noticed a Blues player on the ground, and fans immediately became enraged when cameras caught the Wild forward cross check Pavel Buchnevich right in the leg.

After the play, fans everywhere flocked to social media to call out Jared Spurgeon on the blatantly dirty play.
This is legit intent to injure by Spurgeon. Unreal that this wasn't more than 2 minutes. https://t.co/mSohFKw2kF

Good morning and everyone have a great day except, Spurgeon and other asshats we may encounter. May they have the day they deserve.

Playoff hockey is many things.
That Spurgeon stick to ankle play is as far from Playoff hockey as there is. There have been more than a few people trying to chalk that up to "competitive juices"
Plz don't. I love Spurgeon. But that is despicable

Does Jared Spurgeon deserve to get suspended for this crosscheck. Could have very easily broken Pavel Buchnevich’s ankle. https://t.co/DyvrRvyUiR

On Monday afternoon, the NHL announced that Jared Spurgeon was getting let off easy.
Despite the clear “intent to hurt” benchmark being displayed by Spurgeon, he was only fined $5,000, the maximum allowed for a dirty play on the ice.
Minnesota’s Jared Spurgeon has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking St. Louis’ Pavel Buchnevich.

Luckily for the Wild, they’ll have Jared Spurgeon available for the rest of the series. But you better believe that he’ll need to keep his head on a swivel following that BS on Monday.
