Watch: Falcons, Jets Engage in Joint Practice Training Camp Fight

It’s a joint practice, what could possibly go wrong.

Joint practice fights are seemingly a thing this NFL preseason. The Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets are both looking to bounce back after a miserable 2021 seasons, and it looks like they’re coming into this season with a lot of anger. With Monday night’s preseason contest looming, the Falcons and Jets are holding joint practices in New Jersey. Today was their first practice ahead of their preseason game, and only ifteen minutes into practice a fight broke out.

Watch below:

Five minutes later another brawl broke out:

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith made it clear that Atlanta will not tolerate fights in Florham Park.

“I’m only concerned with our team,” Smith said after Thursday’s practice. “When you’re competing against another team, you can’t fight in the game. It’s not tolerated. Somebody gets heated, does it, there’s got to be consequences.”

“So, I don’t know how to enforce it other than that; do you have somebody who’s got a problem?” Smith said. “An emotional-control problem, that’s probably somebody who you don’t want on the field in real games, either, because they’ll be a liability. You get off the field on third down, and they get a personal foul. It usually goes hand in hand.”

So much for zero tolerance. Joint practices are great in theory, but fights happen when teams practice alone, so of course they’re going to happen when you put that many guys together.

The Falcons open the season against the Saints on Sept. 11th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, while the Jets open up at home against the Ravens.
