Netflix Releasing Documentary on the Manti Te’o Catfishing Saga

This one should be worth a watch.

Born into a Hawaiian paradise, college football superstar Manti Te’o leads a simple life summed up in just three words: faith, family, football. College football’s golden boy could do no wrong, but when tragedy strikes, the increased scrutiny of his online relationship causes a media storm that threatened his future and legacy.

Te’o was a star linebacker at Notre Dame when he announced that Kekua had died after battling leukemia in 2012.

“She’s the most beautiful girl I have ever met, not because of her physical beauty but because of her character and who she is, she’s just that person that I turn to,” Te’o told ESPN at the time, according to CNN.

Featuring in-depth interviews with Manti Te’o and the person behind the online identity, Ronaiah ‘Naya’ Tuiasosopo, the Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist is about Manti’s crazy relationship that never existed.

This story turned Manti into a national mockery, overshadowing his professional football career.

Hard to believe this really happened, but at least he’s making some money off of this all these years later..

The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, a two-part documentary focusing on Manti Te’o and the events that brought a catfishing hoax to light, will premiere August 16th on Netflix.
