Alex Smith Goes Full Curt Schilling, Plays Through Bloody Ankle

Alex Smith or Curt Schilling? In the first of today’s two NFL games, a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith appeared to suffer an ankle injury. Smith visited the sidelines but returned to the game and is playing through it so far. The blood coming out of his ankle and his bloody sock evoked Schilling’s famous 2004 World Series performance.

Say what you want about Alex Smith as a football player, but the man is a freakin’ warrior. He came back from a gruesome leg injury in 2018 that almost resulted in having his leg amputated. Now, two years later, he’s back to starting in the NFL. If you think getting cleated is going to keep Alex Smith out of a game, you are strongly mistaken.

Alex Smith is a gamer, and a guy that everyone should root for.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the blood coming out of Alex Smith’s ankle was Curt Schilling’s performance in game 6 of the 2004 ALCS, when he taped up an injured ankle, yet you could still see the blood coming through his sock. People on Twitter agreed.

Get in Some Sideaction:

Here’s a pic of the two bloody socks side by side.

Yeah, I think Alex Smith’s bloody sock moment is a little more impressive than Curt Schilling’s, something about the demands of an NFL game. Particularly if he can lead his Washington Football Team to an upset victory. Both guys showed some real guts though. I’ll let you be the judge of that of which bloody sock game is better.
