Mike Zimmer Reportedly ‘Snapped’ After Sideline Incident With Kirk Cousins Last Season

It’s no secret that former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and Kirk Cousins never got along all too well.

Last season, one moment stood out that basically embodied the dynamic between Zimmer and Cousins.

After a final second win, Kirk Cousins appeared to aggressively try to pump up Mike Zimmer, before the head coach clearly got upset.

This Week, Paul Allen, the Radio voice of the Vikings, broke down that whole exchange between Kirk Cousins and Mike Zimmer.

Via Bring Me The Sports:

“Back to like the middle of the season. Home game and it’s a victory. Yeah, Zim snapped when Cousins pushed him,” Allen said Monday on KFAN. “And looking back at it, the former head coach got that side-eye and rage steaming from his nostrils. And he wanted to go. But then he didn’t want to go. Kirk sensed a free shot during the working relationship and he got one in.”

After the game in question, Mike Zimmer tried to downplay the whole encounter.

“He came over and said, ‘You like that?’ He kind of gave me a shove and I shoved him back. It’s all good,” Zimmer said.

Now, Kirk Cousins will have the opportunity to work with new Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, and hopefully things go a little more smoothly.
