Kurt Warner Slams Ryan Tannehill Over Reaction To Malik Willis Pick

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill didn’t sound too pleased with his team’s moves at the NFL Draft.

Not only did the Titans trade away top receiver, AJ Brown. But they also seemingly selected Tannehill’s replacement when taking Malik Willis in the third round.

When speaking to reporters recently, Ryan Tannehill said he has no intention of being a ‘mentor’ for the young Willis.

“We’ll add him to the room and go from there. That’s part of being in a quarterback room, in the same room, we’re competing against each other, we’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills. I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him. But if he learns from me along the way, then that’s a great thing,” he said.

After seeing Ryan Tannehill’s comments on Malik Willis, Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner couldn’t help but share his criticism of the veteran QB.

“I will never understand the “I’m not here to mentor the next guy” mentality… so for all you young QBs that need a mentor, DM me & Ill be that guy, happy to help in any way I can!” Warner said on Twitter.

Luckily for Ryan Tannehill, Malik Willis will likely still need a year or two of holding a clip board before he’s ready to take on the QB1 role. But I kind of agree with Kurt Warner here.

As a veteran QB, you should be embracing that competition and doing everything you can to make the young guys on the team (including the other quarterbacks) better. If nothing else, it will increase his value after his Tennessee days if teams see he works well with a young QB.

If Ryan Tannehill struggles next season, you know fans will be calling for Malik Willis, so perhaps this move will bring out the best in everyone.
