Joe Flacco Revenge Game: Veteran QB Appears Set For Ravens Game Following Report

With Zach Wilson out with a knee injury, it appears that the Jets will be forced to turn to veteran backup Joe Flacco.

And as luck would have it, the Jets’ first game of the season is against Flacco’s former team: the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite the Jets fans’ hope that Wilson could return for the week one game against Baltimore, today’s reports would indicate otherwise.

“With Zach Wilson’s knee surgery today now considered a success and with the team not willing to bring him back until he’s fully ready, Jets’ QB Joe Flacco is in line to start the regular-season opener vs. his former Ravens team,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter tweeted out today.

Earlier in the week, Joe Flacco admitted that he was thinking about the potential matchup against the team he led to a Super Bowl championship.

“I’ve definitely thought about that a little bit, like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s not going to be a big deal.’ But I’m going to know deep down … I’m going to try to make sure it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but at the same time, I’ve been through it enough, I’ve seen guys go through it,” Flacco said. “It’s a different thing.”

Earlier in the offseason, Jets head coach Robert Sales gave the ultimate praise to Joe Flacco.

“He could start in this league. I believe that,” Saleh said when asked about having an experienced backup QB. “Sometimes, this league has a tendency to pigeonhole people or put labels on people, and their opportunities get limited. But Joe Flacco is a starting quarterback in this league. He’s really, really talented.”
