Chiefs Fans Have Message For Alex Smith Following Ryan Tannehill’s Controversial Malik Willis Comments

Alex Tannehill is trending this week due to something that Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill said.

After Tennessee selected Liberty quarterback Malik Willis in the draft, Tannehill made it clear that he had no intention of mentoring the young QB.

“I texted Malik right after we drafted him as well. I have no problems with Malik. We’re looking to add talent and guys that can help us. We’ll add him to the room and go from there. That’s part of being in a quarterback room, in the same room, we’re competing against each other, we’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills. I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him. But if he learns from me along the way, then that’s a great thing.”

It wasn’t Alex Smith’s “Job” to mentor Patrick Mahomes in 2017. But he did because Alex Smith is a great teammate and an even better man. Patrick himself praises Alex for showing him the ropes during his rookie season. Maybe Ryan Tannehill should take notes.

Alex Smith was the GOAT and one of a kind when it came to mentoring Mahomes. I remember reading from other fan bases at the time that any quarterback would do the same in his situation lol but here we are with all this other examples of that not being true.

Patrick Mahomes has thanked Alex Smith for how he was treated when he first got to the Chiefs.

“He had a process of how he did things, how he made sure he was prepared for every situation in the game as well as every practice,” Mahomes said of Smith before the 2018 season via KC Star. “For me, being able to watch that and understand what’s needed in order to have success in the NFL is probably the biggest thing he did for me.”

After sitting behind Smith for one season, Patrick Mahomes immediately bursted onto the scene — winning the MVP in his first season.

It’s hard not to love Alex Smith for the way he carried himself during his time in the NFL.
