Los Angeles Rams defensive superstar Aaron Donald found himself dominating headlines this week for all the wrong reasons.
During a joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals, Donald found himself in the middle of a huge brawl. And showing shades of Myles Garrett, Donald was seen on video wielding around two helmets towards Bengals players.
Speaking out on the helmet issue for the first time, Donald tried to downplay the whole situation.
“It was just a practice. It was football,” Donald said Wednesday in an interview for an upcoming episode of the AP Pro Football Podcast. “I don’t really want to go back to nothing negative that happened and talk about something that happened in a practice. My main focus is Buffalo.”
Asked if he addressed the situation with his teammates, Donald responded with a short “yes”.
After the video went viral, Rams head coach Sean McVay also tried to downplay the situation with Aaron Donald, saying he had no plans of disciplining his best player following the scrap.
“It’s a big deal,” McVay said Monday in a SiriusXM town hall interview. “And he’s earned it. And he truly is one of one in my opinion. Means so much to me, to our organization. I think the respect that he’s garnered around this league from guys that have done it at such a high level. What he’s accomplished through his eight years is unparalleled.
“So [we] wanted to be able to find a solution to getting him taken care of, having him continue to lead the way for our team, for our defense. We had a feeling it was trending in the right direction when he was at my wedding on Saturday night.”
