Jarred Kelenic Rumors: Outfielder Removes All Mariners Mentions From Social Media Following Midseason Demotion

Former top Seattle Mariners prospect Jarred Kelenic doesn’t seem to be too happy with his organization.

After struggling mightily since being called up to the big leagues in 2021, Kelenic has spent the bulk of his time in AAA this season trying to work his way back to the MLB. But it appears that he’s growing impatient with how he’s been treated in recent years.

Earlier today, many were quick to notice that Kelenic has removed all mention of the Mariners organization from his Instagram account in an apparent attempt to send a message to the team.

Immediately, many Mariners fans aired their frustration with the prospect.

Before being demoted, Jerred Kelenic followed up his tough rookie season with an even worse start to his 2022 season. He was batting .124 with just 4 home runs in 40 games with Seattle before being sent away.

It does look like Kelenic is finding his swing again in AAA, though. In 70 games with the Tacoma team, Kelenic is slashing .288/.358/.545.

“Jarred has performed very well since he was sent to Triple-A earlier in the season,” Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto said when he was called up earlier in the year. “We were intent on giving him time to make the necessary adjustments. I was more thrilled than you can imagine when he hit the home run off Gerrit Cole on Wednesday, and those are big moments. It’s Yankee Stadium, Gerrit Cole is one of the best pitchers in baseball, and he delivered when the team needed. That has to feel good for him. And this is, I think, all very good and part of Jarred’s growth. And I know for us to continue to succeed as we move into the future, we’re going to need Jarred to contribute in those types of ways, and this was a step in the right direction.”

We’ll see if the Mariners decide to give Jerred Kelenic another chance when rosters expand in September.
