Cam Smith Speaks On LIV Golf Rumors Ahead Of FedEx Cup Playoffs

Ever since Cam Smith won The Open at St. Andrews last month, he’s been swarmed with questions about potentially joining LIV Golf. And today, those rumors intensified.

According to several different reports, Smith has inked a contract with the Saudi-backed golf league for $100 Million to become their newest star.

With the Fedex St. Jude Championship kicking off the playoffs this week, Cam Smith met with the media this afternoon.

He was immediately asked about the rumors that he had already signed with LIV Golf.

“My goal here is to win the FedEx Cup playoffs,” he said. “That’s all I’m here for. I have no comment on that.”

When pressed further, Cam Smith shared the same sentiment.

He added: “Whenever you guys need to know anything, it’ll be said by me. “I’m here to play the FedExCup Playoffs, mate. I’m here to win the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s my priority.”

Cam Smith is currently second to Scottie Scheffler in FedEx Cup Playoffs points, but remains 1,221 points behind the leader heading into the weekend.

Smith would also go on to say that he still plans on playing the Presidents Cup later in the year, an event that has been banned for LIV Golf players.

If the reports are true (and it sure seems like it based on his deflective comments) than Smith will be joining the likes of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson by making the switch to LIV Golf.

For Smith, this move feels a little differently, though, because he’s currently in the midst of his most successful year on the PGA Tour.

Perhaps there’s a major shift going on in the world of golf, and Cam Smith might be the best example of why the PGA Tour seems so threatened by LIV Golf.
