Reece Davis Speaks on Concerns Over Lee Corso’s Performance on College GameDay Last Saturday

At 87 years old, Lee Corso continued his longtime role on College GameDay last Saturday. But fans everywhere were worried about his mental status after hearing a lot of his rants not exactly add up to a coherent argument.

Throughout the performance from an isolated location, Corso struggled mightily with getting out his thoughts and takes.

When making an appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show” on Tuesday, Lee Corso’s College GameDay colleague, Reece Davis, refuted the notion that his partner is starting to lose it a little bit.

“He’s doing great. I speak to him regularly,” Davis said. This weekend in Columbus, I think you’ll see a much more comfortable environment and you’ll see him be able to deliver as he still does, which is remarkable.”

Over the offseason, Corso had a long feature article with Sports Illustrated — where he talked about how he has no plans of leaving College GameDay any time soon.

“On May 16, 2010, I walked outside to get the newspaper and my wife Betsy looked at me, and she told me it looks like you had a stroke. ESPN, they could have dumped me then, because I couldn’t talk. That speaks well of ESPN. That’s why I’ve stayed so long, because they took care of me. It’s been 35 years,” he said in the interview with SI.

Of course it’s entirely possible that ESPN did Lee Corso no favors by making him stay on a set all by himself in a remote location for the “week 0” games last weekend.

We’re all hoping to see a different version of the colorful analyst when College GamDay heads to Columbus for the Notre Dame – Ohio State game this weekend.
