Dana White Confirms ‘Fight Island’ Will Open On July 11 But Explains It May Be Less Cool Than Hoped

TMZ Sports – Fight Island is all set to open on July 11 — with top-of-the-line facilities and an octagon on the beach, so says Dana White.

… but Dana says there’s one big problem.

“The FANTASY of Fight Island,” Dana explained, “I’m very worried it will eclipse the REALITY of Fight Island.”

“The fighters are not going to walk out lined up with tiki torches on the side. I will not be sitting in a big thrown overseeing the octagon and watching the fight.”

So, what will Fight Island look like? Dana explained on “TMZ Live.”

“We actually have an arena. We built a little arena there that’s very, very cool … The fighters will have their own private places to train. And, there will be an octagon on the beach too!”

You can see the Dana White TMZ interview here. Rumors online are that the island will be located in the Middle East rather than an underdeveloped private island in the Pacific or Caribbean. But honestly, I don’t get why they wouldn’t go all the way with Fight Island.

The second that Dana White dropped the phrase “Fight Island,” everyone was on board. But to do Fight Island the right way, you NEED it to look like a bonus arena in a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat game.I would be a little leery of cultural appropriation at this time in the world but tiki torches and grass skirts also seem like a nice inclusion on paper. And yes, Dana White sitting on a gigantic throne and giving people thumbs up and thumbs down like the pseudo dictator he is in his sport is an ABSOLUTE must:

Hell, if we can go that route, let’s get Jon Jones on the card and have him go full Maximus Decimus Meridius and berate Dana White from the Octagon:

I know they just wanted Fight Island to get international fighters who can’t go to UFC’s hubs involved. But if we’re going to do Fight Island, let’s DO Fight Island.

I am available to consult, Dana White. Let’s talk.
