Surprise, surprise.
On early Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers added to their current touting of league’s best win/loss record by breaking the record for most home runs by a team in one month for both the Dodgers franchise as well as the National League (57 home runs).

And naturally, it was Cody Bellinger to put them over the top, as he smoked a dinger off Kyle Gibson in the third inning of a Dodgers 7-2 victory.
If you fast-forward to the 1:16 mark, you can check it out here (or just be patient and watch both home runs featured):
Speaking from the perspective of a Dodgers fan (which I am), unfortunately it’s become numbing to tally the novelty moments like these over the past 3+ years, as coming up just short of a title has been the more memorable achievement in the given time frame.
Currently the Dodgers hold a five-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the National League West division, winning eight of their last ten games played, and a 9-3 resume against teams with a record over .500. The next team behind them in the overall standings are the Tampa Bay Rays, two and a half games behind at 24-11.
While the bragging rights are always great to have in-the-moment, being a Dodgers fan in such moments comes buckled with haunting memories of recent years past.
Winning the NL West has devolved to the notch of an expectancy, while the niche awards all the way up to League’s Best Record (again) are stashed into a near-forgettable pile like a pampered child’s excess of toys.
Ask any other Dodgers fan and they can essentially match sentiments verbatim: We want more than the Pennant. We will only be satisfied by the Commissioner’s Trophy.
