Mina Kimes Takes Issue With Stephen A. Smith’s Shohei Ohtani Take

When Stephen A. Smith basically said that Shohei Ohtani being the face of baseball wasn’t the best for the game because he doesn’t speak english, many fans took issue. But it appears that his colleagues didn’t care for the ridiculous take, either.

Here’s what Stephen A. Smith said about Shohei Ohtani during “First Take” on Monday.

“The fact that you got a foreign player that doesn’t speak English, that needs an interpreter, believe it or not, I think contributes to harming the game to some degree, when that’s your box-office appeal,” Stephen A. Smith says of Shohei Ohtani.

“When you talk about an audience, gravitating to the tube, or to the ballpark to actually watch you, I don’t think it helps that the No. 1 face … needs an interpreter to understand what the hell he’s saying.”

When it was later revealed that Shohei Ohtani would be the starting picture for the American League, while also batting leadoff, Mina Kimes had the perfect response to Stephen A. Smith.

Stephen A. Smith didn’t apologize for his Shohei Ohtani comments, but he did try to clarify his take in a tweet later Monday afternoon.
