Washington Still Doesn’t Have A Name For Their NFL Team But They Have Chase Young…And They Just Paid Him

The biggest defensive prospect from the 2020 NFL draft put the pen to paper and signed his rookie contract. Washington selected The Ohio State’s Chase Young with their first pick at No. 2 overall. They expect the rookie defensive end to make an instant impact on the team’s success. And they sure paid him like it. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the deal is worth $34.56 million with a $22.697 million signing bonus. Young tweeted a picture of himself inking the contract on Thursday morning. Despite 2020 woes, it’s all smiles from the rookie for now.

The Washington no namers had a pretty lackluster 2019 NFL season. Their few wins were all against other league bottomfeeders. Locking in Chase Young for the next 4 years is massive for Washington. It’s pretty much the only good news the organization has received this entire offseason. Young recorded 16.5 sacks in 2019, breaking the OSU single-season record, undeterred by his 2 game suspension. The suspension was kind of bogus, but it didn’t stop him from having an all-time great season.

New Washington Coach Ron Rivera has given some pretty high praise to the rookie prospect. He went as far as to compare him to greats like Julius Peppers and Von Miller. That’s some pretty good company for a man that hasn’t played a single NFL game thus far. The Ohio State has sent some pretty stellar edge rushers to the NFL in the past few years. Both the Bosa brothers (Joey and Nick) have been very successful in the early years of their careers. Many scouts expect Young to be even better than both of them. If he lives up to that hype Washington will be in great shape for the foreseeable future.

Washington has a couple of other studs from The Ohio State on the other side of the ball. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins and WR1 “Scary Terry” McLaurin. Washington definitely has all the tools to be a good team, regardless of not officially having a new team name. Speaking of Haskins and Washington’s team name (or lack thereof), the new Red Wolves design looks sick.

Who knows if Washington’s new name will indeed be the Red Wolves. However, the mock designs are appearing on a daily basis. So far, I’m here for them.
