Tim Anderson Was Right, The A’s Should’ve ‘Done Their Homework’

Tim Anderson and the White Sox are known for hitting lefties, Anderson is also known for his cocky personality. Anderson did not hold back when asked what he thought about the Athletics decision to start Jesus Luzardo in Game 1 of the Wild Card Round against his Sox.

“Nothing against him, but we have been doing good against lefties.” Anderson said. “I guess they haven’t done their homework, so hopefully we can go out and do what we’ve been doing against lefties and come out with a win.”

A’s Pitcher Chris Bassitt seemed to be responding to Anderson’s criticism when he said, “These next two days, these next three days, you’re not going to be able to go back and say, ‘Well, we had a really good year against lefties.’ I don’t give a damn what you did against lefties. These three games are what matters.”

Well, give Anderson the upper hand on this one. He was right. It was absolutely not the move to go with a lefty against a team with a 14-0 record this year against southpaws. The White Sox got to Luzardo early with an Adam Engel homerun.

MVP front-runner Jose Abreu also got in on the fun against Jesus Luzardo.

Luzardo ended up lasting just 3.1 inning, allowing 6 hits and 3 ER. Maybe this will serve as a lesson for Bob Melvin and the rest of the A’s decision making brass to stray away from lefties for the rest of this series. If they don’t, they could be in big trouble.
