The Ontario Hockey Federation Has Canceled Their Diversity And Inclusion Training Program And people Are Pissed

The Ontario Hockey Federation has decided that the best course of action (for now) is to shut down their diversity and inclusion training program. Citing COVID-19 as their reasoning, the league sent out this memo.

I’m with the people here.

All sports have racism engrained in them, but hockey has even more issues. It starts with inclusion. Top to bottom, there are not the same opportunities for everyone to play hockey. It starts in youth leagues, and it starts in lower-income communities.

Without a concerted effort, the game will remain the way it is. Hockey is a great game. But without programs in place (like the one The Ontario Hockey Federation canceled) then it will never grow, and it will become worse.

Just the other day, a story came out an Arizona Coyotes draft pick who bullied a black and mentally disabled student in high school. Is that the kind of future we want for hockey? It’s time for a change, and canceling diversity and inclusion programs is a step in the wrong direction.
