Sean McVay Opted Not To Commit To Jared Goff As His Quarterback

The Los Angeles Rams have an interesting decision to make on their quarterback Jared Goff. He was given a huge contract extension back in 2019. However, he hasn’t exactly taken the next step that coach Sean McVay would like to see.

The Rams have been a good team under Jared Goff. The team has consistently been in the playoff conversation, and even went to a Super Bowl in 2018. This season, the Rams went to the playoffs as a wild card team in the NFC. They went to the divisional round, where they were completely outmatched against the Packers. Some are wondering if the answer to getting the Rams over the hump might start at the quarterback position.

Here’s what Sean McVay had to say when he was asked about Jared Goff’s future in L.A.

“[W]e’re in a situation that we’re in evaluation mode,” McVay said via Pro Football Talk. “All those things are things that we’re moving forward, we’re looking forward. I can’t answer any of those questions until, like I said, I take a step back and evaluate everything that is in the best interest of the Rams.”

I’m a little bit shocked by McVay’s refusal to fully commit to Goff for next season. Jared Goff seems to be losing confidence, throwing 13 interceptions before breaking his thumb late in the season. But he still has two years left on his mega-contract, and the Rams have the fifth worst amount of cap space in the NFL. Does McVay think he’ll get a steal late in the draft?

If I had to bet, I’d say Jared Goff will be back under center for the Rams next season.
