Ryder Cup Captain Holding Out Hope That Tiger Woods Can Be A Part Of It

The U.S Ryder Cup captain for 2021 is Steve Stricker, who has kept in touch with Tiger Woods after his scary single-car crash that left him in need of emergency leg surgery. Tiger has remained hospitalized for his injuries, but appears to be in good spirits.

With the 2021 Ryder Cup taking place in September, Stricker realizes that the chances of Tiger being able to play are pretty slim. Nonetheless, he’s hoping that Tiger can be a part of the event in some way.

“Obviously, he’s a friend of mine. I’m trying to keep up on what’s going on with him. I haven’t heard too much lately,” Stricker told Golfweek. “We’re all pulling for him.

“We’re thankful that he’s alive. I don’t know who said it, but that his kids continue to have a father. Something even more tragic could have come from that.”

Stricker was asked about the possibility of Tiger joining the team as a vice captain.

“I’d love to have him around. I’m hoping in one way, shape or form,” Stricker said. “But it’s too early to kind of commit to anything.”

Obviously, it’s way too early to tell what Tiger will or won’t be able to do when he’s in the process of recovering from this serious injury. All any of us can do (Steve Stricker included) is wait to see how Tiger feels on a day-to-day basis. Thankfully none of Tiger’s injuries were life-threatening. That’s the most important part.
