Ron Artest Talks About How He Would Take On Guarding Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic has emerged as one of the NBA’s best players in his three seasons on the court. His skill set allows him to score and create for his teammates, causing a headache for anyone who defends him. But how would Luka match up against one of the greatest defenders the game has ever seen? According to Ron Artest, the best way to guard Luka Doncic is by testing his cardio.

In an interview with ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Ron Artest says that the former Real Madrid player should “get in tip-top shape” if he faced him during his prime. Artest, who was the 2004 NBA defensive player of the year, says he would dare Luka Doncic to beat him off the dribble. The hope is that by the fourth quarter he wouldn’t have much left in his legs.

“For the first three quarters, it would be really hard for you to get a jumper, unless you’re coming off a screen,” said Artest. “That was just my thought process guarding guys. You’re going to have to drive. And I don’t mind a guy getting 15 or 20 in the first quarter. If you’re getting that against me in the first quarter, you’re probably done.”

Ron Artest gave props to Luka Doncic and admitted that guarding him would be a tall task. Even off the dribble, he has proven to be one of the best scorers in the league. The way Luka is able to create his own shot would cause problems for Ron Artest as it does for anyone who tries to guard him. However, guarding Luka is a challenge Ron Artest would be willing to take was he still playing.

Who would you take in the hypothetical Ron Artest vs. Luka Doncic showdown?
