Raiders Reportedly Asked Bears For Khalil Mack Back

In 2018, the Chicago Bears pounced at the opportunity to land outside linebacker Khalil Mack from the (then) Oakland Raiders when he made it clear that the team was not meeting his monetary demands.

Mack landed in Chicago, where he has been a steady force on a consistently top-of-the-line defense. But with Mack’s play declining last year, Oakland thought they might take a chance at a reunion.

According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the Raiders made a call to the Chicago Bears asking about the availability of Khalil Mack prior to their move to land Yannick Ngakoue in free agency.

The Bears were not interested.

Khalil Mack never spoke to Jon Gruden when the new coach arrived to the Raiders prior to the 2018 season.

Instead, he held out until a team (the Bears) were willing to make him one of the highest paid defensive players in the history of the NFL.

Prior to the Bears’ London game against the Raiders in 2019, Gruden declined to speak on Khalil Mack.

“I’m not going to get into all the drama,” Gruden said in London in 2019 the week before the Raiders played Mack’s Bears. “We wanted to sign Mack, OK? We didn’t want to trade him. I wish him the best.”

Khalil Mack will look to improve on his nine sacks last season.
