#Bears DL Akiem Hicks told reporters on a video conference call that he believes Colin Kaepernick is no longer in the NFL because he kneeled. "I just know that when he took a knee, he was silenced. …We signed Mike Glennon."

The topic of Colin Kaepernick’s functional blackballing by NFL owners has been discussed more in recent days as a result of the protests around the country. And while people in Facebook comments can talk all they want about their precious little fee fees and how Colin Kaepernick shhouldn’t be in the NFL because of his form of non-violent protests, it’s clearly been a sore issue for players like the Bears’ Akiem Hicks for a while now.
Check out this Glennon-Hicks interaction from back when Glennon was the Bears’ backup quarterback, from noted GIF man @_MarcusD3_:

I don’t necessarily think Mike Glennon is the actual cause of the ire as much as what he represents. Colin Kaepernick was a drive away from a Super Bowl win and couldn’t find a gig. Meanwhile, Mike Glennon is the personification of a Mediocre White Guy who continues to get work. Hell, you might not even know that he’s the backup for the Jaguars right now after this torridly unimpressive career in which he was mostly a tall dude who doesn’t collapse into a heap every time he takes a snap:
You have to feel a little bad for Mike Glennon to get caught in the riptide of his own replacement level play. He was probably having a nice lunch and minding his own business when he’s suddenly blindsided by being one of the top trending topics in the world:
Poor Mikey probably thought he did something dumb like Drew Brees somehow while eating his Caesar salad wrap.
But unfortunately for Mike Glennon, that’s the way the world has to be now. It’s not about the white dudes who get worked up and cry about everything on social media. It’s not about those precious feelings and fears of offending someone who’s benefited from white privilege. It’s about the reality of the situation. And the reality of the situation is that Mike Fucking Glennon has made $29 MILLION in his NFL career while other potentially more deserving players of color couldn’t get a job.
Sucks for Mike Glennon. Definitely sucks more for all the other guys.
