Alexander Zverev Apologizes After Being Kicked Out Of Mexican Open For Outburst

Tennis star Alexander Zverev is under heavy fire due to his behavior in a doubles match at the Mexican Open this week.

After losing a doubles match, Zverev lashed out at the chair umpire of the competition, repeatedly slamming his racket into the chair to vent his frustration.

After being kicked out of the tournament, Alexander Zverev sent out an apology for his actions.

“It is difficult to put into words how much I regret my behavior during and after the doubles match yesterday,” he said. “I have privately apologized to the chair umpire because my outburst towards him was wrong and unacceptable.”

Alexander Zverev continued:

“As you know I leave everything out on the court. Yesterday I left too much. I am going to take the coming days to reflect on my actions and how I can ensure that it will not happen again.”

After the apology, Novak Djokovic condemned Alexander Zverev for his actions, but admitted that there was a road to redemption if the young star can channel his emotions better in the future.

“I made mistakes in the past where I’ve had tantrums on the court,” the world number one said in his press conference.
I understand what the player is going through. But, of course, I do not justify his actions. He has, with the words that he had in the statement, handled it in a right way.”
The biggest way for Alexander Zverev to get redemption is by putting his money where his mouth is. He can’t ever let another outburst like this happen again in the future.
