Oakland Athletics Pitcher Jesus Luzardo Breaks His Pinkie While Playing Video Games

We have all been there before! You get killed in a game of Call of Duty Modern Warfare or maybe you lost by an own goal in FIFA, either way, you are definitely annoyed. Maybe you are good at controlling your emotions and are able to just say good game and move on, or just shut off the system and cool off another way. Unfortunately, for Oakland Athletics pitcher Jesus Luzardo, he took his aggression out on a near-bye desk.

According to Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle, Bob Melvin says that Luzardo has a hairline fracture in the pinkie finger.

The Oakland Athletics placed Luzardo on the IL with a left hand fracture while they recalled LHP Adam Kolarek from their alternate site.

I am not going to sit here and judge because I have had my own deal of video game aggression left on near-bye tables or controllers. It would also make sense to assume that he didn’t simply “bump his hand on a desk.” Because if so, then why even include the fact that you were playing video games before your start?

I believe that there are many other professional athletes who have suffered the same fate of Luzardo. One hopes that the game was worth the IL stint as he will now be out for a couple weeks to heal up.

Luzardo lasted just 3 innings on Saturday after the incident and allowed 6 runs (3 earned runs) on 5 hits, while striking out just one. He carries an ERA of 5.79 with 30 strikeouts in 28 innings this season for the Oakland Athletics.
