Nick Saban sounds like he want to coach Alabama forever.
Even at 70 years of age, Saban doesn’t want to hear about his impending retirement. And frankly, he’s sick and tired of being asked about it.
When speaking on Monday, Nick Saban admitted that he would have no idea what he would do after retiring from coaching football after all these years.
“Everybody asks me when I wanna retire. Retire from what?” Saban said to a crowd of coaches in Montgomery, Ala., according to Charlie Potter of 247Sports. “I’m gonna jump into an empty abyss, aight, of what am I going to do? Because the very challenges that I talk about and the things in our profession that concern me – for you and for me both, in your game and our game – that’s what keeps me going. That’s why I get up every day. That’s why I can’t sleep at night sometimes.
“So why would you quit doing that? I haven’t figured that one out yet.”
These comments equal the same sentiment that Nick Saban has had for years.
Even if it’s pretty unusual, Saban has said in the past that he’s willing to coach 10 more seasons in college football if all goes according to plan. And after losing to Georgia in last year’s National Championship Game, he’s likely more motivated than ever to get back to the mountaintop.
As we already know, Nick Saban is a different breed. And bad news for his haters — he isn’t going anywhere.
