Punishment Announced For Juwan Howard After He Threw Punch At Wisconsin Assistant

Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard was the talk of the sports world this weekend for all the wrong reasons…

During the loss against Wisconsin on Sunday, Howard took issue with a late timeout called by Badgers head coach Greg Gard. This resulted in a heated back-and-forth in the postgame hand shake line, before Howard threw a punch at a Wisconsin assistant coach.

As many people around college basketball were calling for Juwan Howard’s head, the team announced Monday that the coach would only be suspended five games for his actions.

Michigan AD Warde Manuel immediately condemned Juwan Howard for his actions.

“I am aware of and watched the end of our men’s basketball game. There is no excuse for any of our staff or student-athletes to get into a physical altercation with others regardless of instigation factors. I reached out and apologized to (Wisconsin AD) Chris McIntosh and (Michigan) President Coleman has reached out to UW chancellor Blank to apologize for the totally unacceptable behavior. We will review the situation more thoroughly and work with the Big Ten Conference as they determine their disciplinary actions and will determine if any further disciplinary actions are needed,” Manuel said.

After the game Juwan Howard pointed out Greg Gard yanking his arm as the instigating action. But now that some of the dust has settled, I think we can expect a formal apology from the Michigan coach.
