Everyone knew the Houston Texans were going to be atrocious in 2021. But even so, the team made the decision to fire head coach David Culley after just one season at the helm.
Texans fired HC David Culley, as NFL Network and Houston Chronicle also reported.

David Culley’s Texans finished the year at a disappointing 4-13. But given the flawed roster, organizational dysfunction, and positive play from rookie quarterback Davis Mills, it’s easy to see that Culley did the best given his situation.
After the news was announced, social media erupted to call out the Texans over their unfair treatment of Culley.
David Culley was just a meat shield for the front office and ownership.

This really, really annoys me. Won 4 games and stayed competitive throughout the year with a roster lacking so much talent.
Set Culley up for failure, he overachieved, and it still didn't matter. Just BS. https://t.co/ODshBQZZGe

Simply put, David Culley was a bridge head coach in Houston and was made into a punching bag for all the chaos he had to walk into. No one else wanted that. Considering everything, there were Texans players who never gave up on him. https://t.co/AFMh9bEKOm

David Culley was hired to be fired after one year. They knew the team would stink and they didn’t want to saddle someone like Josh McDaniels with 4-13. Culley did more with Davis Mills than any other coach did with a rookie QB this year.

With David Culley's firing by the Texans after only one season, combined with Brian Flores's firing Monday by the Dolphins, the NFL has one active Black head coach, Mike Tomlin of the Steelers. https://t.co/tcACd2J4IZ

Enter Flores
Culley was never given a shot to win….. https://t.co/PGmuBUvhww

David Culley didn’t stand a chance with the #Texans. He had a mix of holdovers from the previous regime and a bunch of one-year free agent signings. Plus no franchise QB. He made his mistakes but I’m not sure how many coaches would’ve won more games. https://t.co/ISAabjSykw

Cal McNair is atrocious. Jack Easterby is atrocious. Nick Caserio's roster was deficient… but hey, FIRE DAVID CULLEY

What the hell did you expect Culley to do with the shit he was given? Make Beef Wellington?
He's Jim Tomsula: A dude you just feel bad for, but a guy who took it one day at a time and enjoyed it for what it was. https://t.co/C9ZOu1birL

A shame that so many of us knew that Culley had no shot to succeed in Houston. https://t.co/dmdUvA0zl2

David Culley was always a stepping stone for the Texans. And that’s a pretty awful way for an organization to treat a man who gave his all to a job.
After never giving a chance to Culley, the Texans proved once again that they are one of the very worst ran professional sports teams in the country.
Perhaps David Culley is better off moving on from such a toxic environment.
