Alabama Coach Nate Oats Reacts To Assistant Coach Trash Talking Scotty Pippen Jr.

Scotty Pippen Jr. got the last laugh against Alabama during the SEC Tournament.

Prior to Vanderbilt’s game against the Crimson Tide on Thursday afternoon, Pippen revealed that he was hearing it from some assistant coaches.

“Before the game, one of the Bama coaches said that you asked for it, so you’re going to get it or something like that,” Pippen said afterward, “so it’s kind of good to get back at him and get the win.”

The quote the Bama coaches were referring to was some damning comments Scotty Pippen Jr. made prior to the matchup.

“They’re a very beatable team,” Pippen Jr. said, via AL.com. “They’re a team we wanted to play. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Following the game, Alabama head coach Nate Oats admitted that it wasn’t ideal that his assistant coaches were smack-talking Scotty Pippen Jr.

“That’s probably not the smartest thing to be doing,” Oats said. “I’ll address that afterwards here. I didn’t know anything about that.”

Scotty Pippen Jr’s Vanderbilt squad would go on to win the game 82-76.

The star guard would drop 26 points to go along with seven assists in the dominant effort.

After the win, Vanderbilt will face the tall task of facing John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats on Friday night — where they’ll undoubtedly need another heroic effort from Scotty Pippen Jr.
