Money Over Number For Tyler Boyd

Tyler Boyd is not about to give up his hard-earned cash for a new jersey number. In fact, he is a Debbie Downer on the NFL’s new jersey rules altogether by the looks.

TMZ Sports was the first to break the news that the Cincinnati Bengals wideout would not be switching from the No. 83 jersey that he has worn throughout his NFL career.

The NFL passed a new rule this week that will allow skill position players to change their number ahead of the 2021 season. They are essentially free to rock whatever digit(s) they want.

However, there is a catch. In order for a number change to take place, the NFL is requiring that the player buy out all unsold inventory of their current jersey. No wonder the league was willing to approve of the rule. After all, since when are NFL owners not trying to make a little extra cash?

The 26-year-old Boyd sounded off on the whole matter Thursday night:

“I’mma keep my same number, bro, I’mma keep my shit. I’mma have to pay if I want to get my shit changed!”

Why on earth would any rational mind want to fork over thousands if not millions just to have a different number on their back? Boyd really out here taking this silly rule change and exposing it for what it is. Blow that one up your ass, NFL!

Tyler Boyd wideout isn’t the only player who has expressed displeasure with the new rule. Earlier this week, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady also sounded off on the matter.

Not a good look when the “chosen one” of your sport is out here trashing the new rule. Then again, it’s hard to imagine Roger Goodell really minds getting under the skin of TB12.

While Boyd brought out the ugly truth that players must fork over a whole lot of dough just to enact a change, Brady’s points are also valid. There has always been set jersey numbers for set positions in football. That’s just how it is. I can already see this rule change creating a headache for both players and fans alike.

Honestly never thought I’d be saying this but I agree fully with Tom freakin’ Brady. So yeah, Tyler Boyd, you keep rocking the 83! You keep your shit!
