Mike Zimmer Blasts Vikings Defense After Disgusting Effort Against The Saints

I think Troy Aikman put it perfectly when talking about Mike Zimmer’s Vikings defense during the broadcast yesterday.

“This Vikings defense, they’re just not very good,” Aikman concluded.

No Troy, no they’re not. Everybody knows that the Vikings defense is holding the team back greatly, especially head coach Mike Zimmer, who trashed the defense during his zoom press conference today.

“Yeah, this is a bad defense,” Zimmer said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “Worst one I’ve ever had. Really disappointed defensively. You’ve gotta work really hard to give up 52.”

Sideaction’s Latest:

53 points was the most the Vikings have given up in a game since 1963.

Their 53 points given up came just one week after being dominated by David Montgomery, Mitch Trubisky and a Chicago Bears offense that has received plenty of criticism in the past. Under Zimmer, the Vikings have usually had a great defense. This year has been a completely different story.

The Vikings have now given up the 27th most points in the league, and have fallen to 6-9 on the season. This loss takes the Vikings out of playoff contention, and Mike Zimmer’s tenure as head coach might be coming to an end in Minnesota.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of changes (if any) the Vikings decide to make in the offseason.
