Mike Tomlin Being Linked To Prominent College Football Jobs

An unlikely name has surfaced with the new opening at both LSU and USC: Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

“Coach T” has been with the Steelers ever since Hall-of-Famer Bill Cowher stepped down in 2007. During his time at the helm, Tomlin has won a Super Bowl, two AFC Championships, and has a Coach of the Year Award.

He’s also been used to having his Steelers dominate the AFC North since he began as head coach. But lately, that dynamic has changed. Thanks to an aging Ben Roethlisberger along with other issues on the roster, the Steelers are now a middle-of-the-pack team at best.

And instead of sticking around to get it right, some think Mike Tomlin would pounce at an opportunity if LSU or USC came calling about their openings.

Mike Tomlin has not been associated with college football since he was the defensive backs coach with Cincinnati in 1999-2000.

The coach sounds fully invested in getting things right in Pittsburgh, and it seems like this is a purely speculative take. He still likely has not been contacted by LSU or USC, and if he were to be he’d probably either just say “no” or tell them to wait until the end of the season.

I happen to think Mike Tomlin would be an awesome hire for either LSU or USC. But I also think he’s going to be too committed to bringing a winner back to Pittsburgh at this time.
