Mike Golic Saying That He Never Overslept For His Radio Show In 25 Years Is A Preposterous Claim

FTW – But what might be just as impressive is the fact we learned from his appearance on the podcast of his ESPN colleague Adam Schefter: he informed the NFL reporter that in 25 years of waking up that early, whether it was at 4:15 or 4:30 AM, he NEVER overslept and missed the start of a show. He set one alarm! Luckily, on weekends, he was able to go back to sleep after he’d stir around that super-early time.

What’s more is now that he doesn’t have to wake up that early anymore, he got rid of his alarm clock (or he might mean the alarm set on his phone).

Here’s the clip of the now-former ESPN Radio host Mike Golic talking to Adam Schefter:

You can’t knock the hustle of Mike Golic because morning radio is one of those life-altering types of schedules. You basically have to rethink the way normal human beings live their lives in order to do your job every single day. You want to stay up late and party if you’re a single guy? Not if you want to hit those weather and time marks on your morning radio show. You have a baby keeping you up all night? Hope you’re ready to talk for four hours straight through red, bleary eyes. You in a weird mood and want to spend the night down some Reddit or P-Hub rabbit holes? Not allowed unless it’s wrapped up before 10 p.m., max. That’s a lot of sacrifice put into entertaining people for so long.

At the same time, we’re all human beings. And even with Mike Golic having the discipline of a long-time NFL lineman, you’ve got to imagine the man missed an alarm or two over the years. Even if it’s just a 15-minute lateness, there has to be ONE day that slipped through the cracks. I’m all for a bit of brand-building hyperbole, but I simply refuse to believe there wasn’t some day where Mike Golic had a few too many whiskeys or white zins, felt that tightness in his head, and slept in.

Or during the period where it seemed like Mike Golic and his co-host Mike Greenberg were feuding … there wasn’t some day where he just rolled over and thought “Screw that dude” and hit the snooze button after calling in sick? There’s no way to fact check the logs without a whole lot of research I’ll be damned if I commit to. But I refuse to simply take these audacious claims at face value. As a proud sleepy boy, I simply cannot relate or believe.
