Michigan Vs. Ohio State Has Been Canceled….What Does That Mean For The Buckeyes Playoff Chances?

It has been announced that the Michigan vs. Ohio State game has been canceled due to positive COVID tests in the Michigan program.

This could be an absolute catastrophe for Ohio State and their fans.

If Ohio State is unable to find a new opponent for this weekend, they will not reach the six game minimum to qualify for the Big Ten Championship game. Obviously, this would be awful for the entire conference, as Ohio State is far and away the best team in the Big Ten.

Now, the Buckeyes could very well find an opponent for this weekend in order to have a shot to put a bow on their College Football Playoff resume. The Big Ten could also come to their senses and eliminate the six-game minimum rule. After all, Ohio State is the only unbeaten team in the Big Ten East.

As for “The Game” itself, this will be the first time since 1918 that Ohio State will not play Michigan in their rivalry game. The Ohio State-Michigan game has a rich history, but lately it has been incredibly one-sided. John Harbaugh still hasn’t beaten Michigan since he took over as Michigan’s head coach, and lately he hasn’t even been close. Ohio State would have destroyed Michigan this weekend, and now, they could be in trouble.

If Ohio State does not find an opponent and the Big Ten doesn’t change their rules then we will have an Indiana-Northwestern Big Ten Championship game. It would then become increasingly hard for the College Football committee to decide whether they can really allow Ohio State into the playoffs with only five games played. Don’t let that happen, Big Ten. Don’t let that happen, NCAA. Our best teams need to be represented.
