Mel Kiper Jr. Getting Trashed After Saying Sam Darnold Would Be A Better Option Than Anyone But Trevor Lawrence In The Draft

NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has made a career off his takes as it pertains to the NFL Draft. However, people are questioning his credibility after his latest opinion.

Kiper thinks that Trevor Lawrence is far and away the top quarterback in the NFL Draft. But he thinks there’s another option out there who would be better than anyone else in the draft. Kiper still believes in Jets quarterback Sam Darnold–who would appear to be on the trading block.

“There’s a quarterback out there [that’s available] that’s better than any of the QBs in this draft, except for Trevor Lawrence— and that’s Sam Darnold,” Kiper said on ESPN’s “Get Up” today.

This is a terrible take. All of the top 4 QBs in the 2021 draft are better than Sam Darnold was when he entered the NFL. Darnold is a bad QB and is approaching bust status. I think the jury is still very much out on Sam Darnold. While he hasn’t put it all together during his time in New York, it’s important to add context. Darnold had a lot of moving parts on his roster and coaching staff during his time in New York. He was also paired with Adam Gase–who is basically proven to be one of the worst offensive minds of our generation.

It’s time for a change of scenery for Sam Darnold and the Jets. Who knows, maybe he can put it all together somewhere else. Maybe Mel Kiper Jr. is on to something.
