Matthew Stafford Reportedly Would’ve Accepted A Trade To Any Team Besides The Patriots

The Los Angeles Rams got “their guy” in Matthew Stafford. The veteran quarterback will not have all the pieces in place to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Stafford and the Lions mutually agreed to part ways at the beginning of the offseason with the Lions looking to rebuild. Stafford understood that he only has a few years left of being at the top of his game, and he didn’t want to waste them with a non-competitive team. Apparently, Stafford wasn’t too particular about where he would be traded–as long as it wasn’t New England.

This makes sense to me. Stafford will be 33-years-old by the start of next season. New England acts like as long as they have Bill Belichick, they’ll be contenders. If last year showed us anything, it’s that this notion simply isn’t true. New England has a fine defense and offensive line, but their lack of playmakers on offense is a red flag.

Tom Brady covered up a lot of wounds for the Patriots organization over the last few years, and their weaknesses were on full display with Cam Newton under center in 2020. A quarterback won’t fix the New England patriots, but a roster overhaul might. Stafford doesn’t have time to wait for that.

Stafford is in the perfect situation with the Rams. He has everything a quarterback could ask for. Now it’s time to win.
