Lakers Championship Rings Pay Homage To The Late Kobe Bryant

The Los Angeles Lakers were presented with their championship rings Tuesday night, just in time for their crosstown rivalry with the Clippers. The ring design is pretty spectacular and, unsurprisingly, it pays homage to the late, great Kobe Bryant. Another neat thing about the ring is that it is etched with LeBron James’ own handwriting. It features the team’s motto, “Leave A Legacy”.

The first tribute to Kobe Bryant is an image of a snake wrapped around the player’s jersey number. Which is representative of Kobe’s famous mamba moniker. The ring also has a detachable top, which reveals all the jerseys the franchise has retired. Kobe’s two jersey numbers, 8 and 24, are on display, however, they are in a darker shade like the Lakers’ black mamba jerseys.

The presentation of the rings was a surreal moment for the Lakers. Unfortunately, it was spoiled by a loss to the Clippers. The Clippers won the battle for Los Angeles in a close 116-109 win in Staples Center. LeBron James led the Lakers in scoring with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting, with five rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes of play.

It wasn’t quite the storybook ending the Lakers were hoping for on such a historic night. A win certainly would have been more memorable, but I’m sure Kobe Bryant still felt honored from above.

Rest in peace, Mambe. Your memory will be eternal.
