Javier Baez Just Had One Of The Most Unbelievable Baserunning Plays I’ve Ever Seen

Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez is known for some crazy plays in the field and on the base paths. But what he did against the Pirates on Thursday afternoon might have been some of his craziest work yet.

“El Mago” hit a ground ball to the first baseman with two outs and a runner on third. He then ran back towards the plate, the first baseman followed him, and then (like a bonehead) tried to throw Willson Contreras out at the plate. Contreras beat the tag, and Javy was able to beat the throw to first from the catcher.

If that description made no sense to you, I’m sorry. But you might just need to see the whole play for yourself.

I mean, sure. Javier Baez is insane. But what the hell are the Pirates doing out there? All first baseman Will Craig had to do was back up, and step on the bag. Instead he decided to chase Baez around and then throw home when he had the force out there for him the whole time.

Nevertheless, the Cubs are rolling right now. And everything seems to be going their way.

It’s going to be another long year for the Pittsburgh Pirates … we’ll be seeing that play for many years to come.
