Looks like the Patriots are back in the Cam Newton business. Newton is re-signing with the Patriots on a one-year deal, sources have confirmed. The contract is worth up to close to $14 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This may put an end to the Jimmy G-Pats thing. Which could also put an end to the Kirk Cousins-49ers thing. https://t.co/cFpyIDk1TO

$14-million for a guy who many tell me can’t throw anymore. Bill disagrees lol https://t.co/sOSYsHTvgy

$14 million? Then I guess they're bringing Cam back as the starter. They wouldn't pay him that much to be a backup. I'm fine with this move, as long as the #Patriots draft a QB to be the long-term starter. https://t.co/01c5vrlGLb

Don’t think current version Cam is the solution in New England, but he also wasn’t the biggest problem, so not surprising to me that hes returning there. He’ll likely bridge to whoever they draft, keep their culture competitive https://t.co/eqibedO3is

It’s a smart move and gives them time to find a young QB https://t.co/JBy6o0B48h

He definitely showed he was dedicated to improving, he’s not the QB of the future but a good placeholder while they upgrade the rest of the offense https://t.co/W4714kCEsZ

THE RISK IS THAT YOURE TROTTING OUT THE WORST STARTING QB IN FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!! https://t.co/8pR9XYLa9A

Paying Cam Newton $14 million American dollars to play pro football is as risky as it gets. The man can’t play https://t.co/OUe0RUiWhd

Cam Newton will be paid $14M in 2021, his base salary was $1.05M in 2020 and paid him no more than $4M in incentives https://t.co/Nn89KAzJ5c

On the “I Am Athlete” podcast in late February, he said he would be open to another one-year deal in New England.
“I’m getting tired of changing [teams],” the quarterback said. “I am at a point in my career where I know way more than I did last year. Yes, I would go back.”
Newton was 242-of-368 for 2,657 yards passing, 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while going 7-8 as the starter. Never count out Cam, he may just surprise you this season.
